This is the Information Age.
We have:
More access to knowledge
More opportunities for skill growth
More ways to grow your career every single day
But lifelong learners face a huge barrier in today’s info-packed world.
👉 Efficiency.
With so much information out there, it can be a full-time job trying to figure out what’s worth knowing, where to find information, and how to absorb it without frying your brain or torpedoing your schedule.
So, today let’s talk about tools that can unlock efficiency.
Every week, I spend a dozen or more hours learning.
And I carve out designated time to refine my learning tech stack — those tools that help me find, organize, and act on new information.
In this post, I will share 50+ battle-tested tools I use daily, broken down by categories like discovery, organization, focus, and networking.
Use these tools to level-up your learning game and grow your career.
Ok, let’s get started!
Discovery
How lifelong learners track down the best info.
Have you ever thought about how massive the Internet is?
1.1 billion websites
402.74 million terabytes of content created daily
4,146,600 YouTube videos watched every minute of every day
The information you need to grow your career is out there. It’s waiting for you to discover it.
👉 With the right discovery tools, you can skip the 99% of content that won’t help you and jump straight to the 1% that can change your life.
Consider these discovery tools:
Social Media
Social media is the lowest of lows and the highest of highs.
LOW
At the low end, social media can waste your time and destroy your mental health. On average, our society spends almost two-and-a-half hours on social media every day — cat videos, TikTok, etc. And the evidence of negative health effects grows every year.
Best case, hours of non-instructive social media — that is social media where you aren’t learning anything — is a form of entertainment. Like watching a daily movie broken into thousands of tiny snippets.
HIGH
At the high end, social media can introduce you to new ideas, frameworks, and people. Learning opportunities you never would have discovered on your own.
In this space, you’re essentially tapping into a 24/7, self-populating textbook filled with the latest and greatest.
How can you spend more time in this space?
👉 By aggressively curating your social media feeds.
Build feeds focused on your learning goals, not your impulse clicks, to take full advantage of social media’s benefits and ditch the rest.
Social feeds I check daily: LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and Threads.
Again, these are highly curated and tailored to my learning goals. As a result, I grab new tips and tricks every single day. And if my feed isn't delivering them, I rework it.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
Generative AI
AI is one of the greatest learning tools ever invented.
Sure it has limitations:
You have to learn prompting to use it effectively.
You have to cross-reference all information.
You have to consider potential bias buried in the data.
But in return, you get access to a natural language version of the entire Internet. You get access to a series of tools that can save you hours every week on your learning journey.
Simply put, Generative AI has changed my entire approach to the Internet.
Instead of cross-referencing endless articles, I use ChatGPT.
Instead of consuming videos and podcasts, I use Otter.
Instead of googling questions, I use Perplexity.
I can't imagine going back.
Here are deeper dives into how you can use AI to boost your daily learning:
Newsletters and Podcasts
What if you could download lessons from the smartest people in the world on any given topic?
👉 Well, you pretty much can.
Every day, experts on everything from marketing and sales to productivity and mindset share their insights through newsletters and podcasts.
In many cases, they share the kind of information that would have populated $200 textbooks a few years ago. . . and it’s all free.
All you have to do is show up.
I'm currently subscribed to 100+ newsletters and podcasts.
Like social media, it's all about curation. These info sources tie directly into career and learning sources, giving me access to succinct, high-quality info.
I also bring AI in to simplify the process, saving hours by helping me get to high-impact info faster.
A quick shout-out for two tools I use every single day:
MECO.
Meco makes it simple for me to manage dozens of newsletter subscriptions. By pulling newsletters out of my inbox and into a user-friendly feed, I’m able to absorb info quickly without getting distracted.
Looking to simplify your newsletter reading? Check out Meco with this referral link.
SNIPD.
Snipd makes it easy to discover, capture, and organize key moments from my favorite podcasts. With Snipd’s transcription and AI-powered highlighting, I can quickly revisit valuable insights without having to listen through entire episodes again.

Tips to Get Started
Schedule Your Discovery: Information discovery can become a black hole. Schedule your time to stay consistent and on track.
Curate Your Info: Again, don't let social platforms decide what you see. Don't fill your inbox with mediocre newsletters. Curate.
Put Resources to Work: When you find a good piece of info, put it to work. Take action. Share. Reach out to the creator.
Organization
How lifelong learners turn raw info into actionable insights.
The Internet is packed with high-value information.
But without a system to organize and process it, all that data can quickly become overwhelming.
As a lifelong learner, you’ve no doubt discovered the key to maximizing knowledge isn't just about finding information — it's about turning that information into something you can use to take big, bold action.
👉 With the right tools and strategies, you can transform scattered notes and random facts into a well-organized knowledge base that fuels your growth and success.
Consider these organization tools:
Knowledge Management Systems
Lifelong learners face a flood of information every day.
Knowledge management systems act as pipes, moving raw data into organized buckets for later use.
Whether you're taking notes from a book, gathering ideas from a podcast, or organizing insights from a meeting, these systems help you
My favorite knowledge management system:
Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forte.
Tiago provides a useful framework (his PARA method) for thinking through long-term knowledge organization. And he gives practical thoughts on which note-taking apps best support his system.
If you're interested, check out Tiago's book.
Note-Taking Apps
How do you capture information as you encounter it?
Note-taking apps are the answer. Tools like Notion make it easy to jot down thoughts, organize them into categories, and retrieve them later. With features like tagging, notebooks, and powerful search capabilities, these apps equip you to manage insane amounts of information effortlessly.
Notion is my go-to tool for note-taking.
I love the simple user interface, expansive capabilities, and AI integration. Within Notion, I organize my Second Brain, Kanban board, research deep-dives, and much more.
Design
Turning insights into visuals makes them more impactful and easier to share.
Design tools like Canva are great for creating visual representations of your ideas, whether you're preparing a presentation, designing infographics, or mapping out processes. These tools help you translate complex concepts into clear, visual stories that are easy to understand and remember.
Since 2022, I've posted daily on LinkedIn.
And Canva has been my go-to tool for turning abstract learning and productivity concepts into eye-catching visuals. I use Canva every day, including to create the thumbnail for this letter.

Tips to Get Started
Don't Start From Scratch: There are plenty of good systems out there. Pick one that speaks to you and adopt it.
Think Workflow: If you find a great resource, link it to your workflow. Make it easy to recall the moment you need it.
Tap Into YouTube: Many of the best tutorials on organization and design tools are available for free on YouTube. Invest time to learn the tools.
Focus
How lifelong learners drown out the noise.
In a world overflowing with distractions, focus is a critical skill for lifelong learners.
It's not just about staying on task, but about creating an environment that supports deep, meaningful work. Here’s how to fine-tune your focus:
👉 With the right focus techniques, you can cut through the noise and zero in on activities that drive real progress.
Consider these focus tools:
Meditation
How do you keep your mind focused and energized?
Meditation. Every year, more and more research supports the fact that meditation can lower stress levels, boost cognition, and more. One study found that 10 days of active meditation lowered anxiety by 14%.
Apps like Calm support a daily meditation practice. They provide guided sessions that help you develop mindfulness, reduce stress, and improve focus. In doing so, they can help you unlock a simple but powerful practice that can support every part of your professional life.
Calm is my go-to tool for meditation.
I'm a huge fan of its user-friendly design, centering meditation sessions, and personalized recommendations. Within Calm, I take advantage of daily meditations, sleep stories, stress management techniques, and more to maintain balance and clarity.
Journaling
Journaling is another mindfulness tool that pays immediate dividends.
Like meditation, there is emerging evidence that journaling is a powerful tool for combating the anxiety and stress of everyday life. Journaling also provides the added benefit of improving your writing skills and capturing key details from your day.
I journal with Day One.
With this app, I can easily document daily thoughts, track my emotions, and reflect on accomplishments. A consistent journaling practice helps me stay grounded and keeps me working toward daily growth.
Deep Work
Distractions will squeeze the life out of your career growth. . . if you let them.
Every ping, every notification, every mindless scroll through social media takes you further away from the growth that will elevate your career. These small interruptions may seem harmless, but they accumulate, eating away at your focus and productivity.
Deep work is the antidote to poisonous distractions.
This practice — defined by dedicating uninterrupted time to tasks that matter most —allows you to dive deeper, think more critically, and produce higher-quality work.
My favorite deep work app is Forest.
Forest transforms focus into a rewarding and engaging experience. Every time you need to concentrate, you plant a virtual tree. As you focus and work uninterrupted, your tree grows. But if you pick up your phone and get distracted, your tree withers and dies.
This simple but powerful visual reminds me of the importance of staying on task.

Meditation: Headspace, Insight Timer
Journaling: Five Minute Journal, Journey
Focus: Be Focused, Rescue Time

Tips to Get Started
Turn Off Notifications: Being plugged in at all times is a tremendous mind drain. Don't let notifications take over your life.
Step Away: Humans aren't computers. We can't run 24/7. Stepping away to walk, write, think, or breathe is always a worthwhile investment.
Rest: Effective sleep and relaxation will do more for your productivity than any tool. Learn when to work and when to turn off.
Networking
How lifelong learners find and build their community.
The professional world is full of potential connections.
But without a strategy to build and maintain relationships, these opportunities can slip through the cracks.
As a lifelong learner, you know that the key to success isn’t just about gaining knowledge — it's about connecting with the right people who can support your growth, offer new perspectives, and open doors.
👉 With the right networking approaches, you can turn casual interactions into meaningful, lasting connections that elevate your professional life.
Consider these networking tools:
Social Platforms
We’ve talked about the learning potential embedded in social platforms. But what about the potential for networking with fellow lifelong learners?
Social platforms are more than just places to eat up content — they’re always-on spaces where you can engage with other professionals who are passionate about learning and growth. Networking on social platforms allows you to connect with like-minded individuals, share insights, collaborate on projects, and find mentorship or job openings.
LinkedIn is pound-for-pound my preferred social platform.
The pros who spend time on LinkedIn are driven, accomplished, and open to connect. Most are happy to connect and share their skills or insights. I've been on LinkedIn every day for two straight years and plan to continue for the foreseeable future.
Networking Tools
There’s a new wave of networking tools that are worth a look.
Tools like LunchClub aim to pair you one-on-one with professionals who are likely to share interests or pursuits with you. By using algorithms to match you with like-minded people, these tools make it easy to find valuable connections without the awkwardness of traditional networking events.
Personally, I haven't used this category much in recent years.
During the pandemic, I leaned into LunchClub as a way to connect with other professionals. But when the world opened back up, and I started getting more active on LinkedIn, I pulled back from AI-driven networking introductions.
Still, depending on your networking goals, these tools can help you connect with professionals who can provide insights or help you grow your career.
Pro Tip: Go Niche
Niche communities have become my go-to source for networking and connection. The right community offers a built-in group of like-minded professionals.
It also offers powerful learning material and knowledge sharing.
So, seek out a niche community in your field.
👉 Use the discovery tools mentioned in this letter to find communities worth your time and attention.
